The President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has highlighted what he referred to as ‘a very important role’ being played for the country by CAF’s new secretary-general, Samson Adamu.
Sports247 reports that Gusau spoke against the backdrop of Tuesday’s confirmation of Nigeria as host of the next Confederation of African (CAF) general assembly in October and annual player of the year awards.

Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval for Nigeria to host both events later this year, Gusau said the role played by Adamu in swinging the events in the country’s favour cannot be overlooked.
He also spoke about the presence of his predecessor, Melvin Amaju Pinnick during Tinubu’s meeting with CAF president, Patrice Motsepe, during the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya and stressed that the former NFF boss remains relevant in global football.
Gusau added, “The CAF president recognised Nigeria as a major football nation in Africa. He spoke about paying us a visit, which is a major take-home from the discussions we had on Tuesday.
“It was made possible mostly through the presence of the CAF General secretary, who is a Nigerian. The CAF president even personally took time to introduce the secretary to President Tinubu.
“That was to tell everyone that Nigeria is still relevant as far as football is concerned. This is also the first time that Nigeria will have a CAF secretary.
“This gives us a chance to have a better role in continental football. We also have Pinnick, who is a former FIFA Council member, and he still remains relevant as far as football is concerned,” Gusau reiterated.
