Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) director of sports and board member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Samuel Onikeku has predicted that the country’s athletes will pull off many surprises during the track and field events of this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sports247 reports that Onikeku made the prediction while casting a look ahead of the commencement of track and field events on Monday at the Games in Glasgow, where he beloieves the presence of several top-rated athletes gives Team Nigeria huge opportunities of clinching many medals.
Onikeku expressed confidence in the quality of athletes representing Nigeria, then specifically mentioned top-rated names like Tobi Amusan, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Favour Ashe, Rosemary Chukwuma and Samuel Ogazi as potential medalists in the country’s contingent.
While noting that Nigeria has four sub-10-seconds men’s 100m sprinters on the cards in Glasgow, Onikeku further pointed at what he referred to as an unprecedented motivational scheme that has been put in place by the National Sports Commission (NSC) as a major factor in Nigeria’s quest for medals.
The energetic sports buff added emphatically, “The athletes selected for the Commonwealth Games are the very best Nigeria has at the moment, and I am confident they will make the nation proud.
“We have Tobi Amusan, who is a world record holder, Samuel Ogazi, who is one of the best in the world right now, Favour Ashe is back, Rosemary Chukwuma, and many other outstanding athletes.
“I believe these athletes will surprise the world. The level of support and motivation they have received has been exceptional. That gives them the confidence to perform at their best.”
