A Nigerian teenager and swimming record holder, Abduljabar Adama set social media abuzz on Saturday, after he reached the men’s 50m freestyle semi-final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland but finished sixth, Sports247 reports.

Although the 17-year-old swimmer ended up finishing sixth in a time of 22.44 seconds, many sports lovers quickly took to various social media platforms to hail the Nigerian national record holder, who earlier clocked 22.67 to pick a semi-finals’ spot as third placed in his heat.
Adama put up a spirited surge in his opening contest to place third behind Australia’s Flynn Southam at 22.03 and England’s Jacob Mills wirh 22.40, but the next stage proved too stiff for the youngster, whose gallant efforts drew words of praise from his appreciative compatriots.
Some of the comments trailing his six position place in the tight semi-final expressed hope for better days ahead, as Doc Mikey pointed out, “He beat the guy from Xenophobia Republic at least;” while Ola B Osinibi added: “plus side, he beat South Africa.”
Bamidele David wrote in his comment, “Better luck next time;” Mavel Fan stated, “Awesome work, there is always a next time;” John Gray noted, “Nice one champ;” Akinwale Ojo chipped in, “Better luck next time;” while Bukundi Isaac posited with three words of commendation: “U try Adama.”
