Former Nigeria international Friday Ekpo has welcomed the Nigeria Football Federation’s decision to extend the contract of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, describing it as an important step towards building stability within the national team.

Ekpo said the extension removes uncertainty surrounding the coach’s future and allows him to concentrate fully on implementing his long-term plans for the Super Eagles.
“The contract extension gives Eric Chelle the stability he needs to focus on his job and continue building the team,” Ekpo said.
The former midfielder acknowledged that the NFF accepted many of Chelle’s conditions during the negotiations, noting that foreign coaches often receive greater contractual backing than their indigenous counterparts.
Despite that observation, Ekpo maintained that the most important outcome is that the coach now has the confidence and security to work without distractions.

“Whether local or foreign, every coach deserves the right environment to succeed. What matters now is allowing him to settle down and do his job properly,” he added.
Ekpo expressed hope that the renewed deal would enable Chelle to continue strengthening the Super Eagles ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the next FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
He urged the NFF to remain consistent in supporting the technical crew, insisting that continuity and stability are essential ingredients for sustained success at the international level.
