AFN Unveils U-18, U-20 Squad for African Region 2 Athletics Championship in Senegal

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has announced its U-18 and U-20 contingent for the forthcoming African Region 2 Athletics Championship in Senegal, with a blend of promising young talents selected to represent the country.

The Nigerian team will compete across a range of track and field events, including sprints, middle-distance races, hurdles, relays, and throwing events, as the federation targets a successful campaign at the regional competition.

In the U-18 girls’ team, Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo and Tejiri Ugoh Praise have been entered for the 100m, 200m, and relay events. Jecinta Andrews and Faith Ezechukwu will compete in the 400m and relay, while Mary Chioma Edeh is set to feature in the 800m, 400m hurdles, and relay.

The U-18 boys’ squad includes Bright Gift, who will contest the 100m, 200m, and relay events. Mumuni Abdul Mohammed and David Udoh Dominion will run in the 400m and relay, while Success Okereke will compete in both the Shot Put and Discus Throw.

For the U-20 girls, Miracle Oluebube Ezechukwu and Lucy Chiamaka Nwankwo will compete in the 100m, 200m, and relay events. Tejiri Godwin has been selected for the 100m and 200m, Gang James will compete in the 1,500m and 5,000m races, while Emmanuel Shakamomodu Audu will represent Nigeria in the Shot Put and Discus Throw.

The delegation will be led by officials Olu Sule, Abdulhakeem Idris, Kate Areguamen, team physiotherapist Ruth Fabian Nkoteto, and team secretary Taldang Tanimu.

Nigeria’s contingent is expected to depart for Senegal on July 2 or 3 ahead of the championship, with the AFN confident the young athletes will deliver impressive performances and underline the country’s bright future in athletics.
