Arsenal winger, Noni Madueke has disclosed that he is determined to pull off a major performance for England against Democratic Republic of Congo during Wednesday’s round of 32 clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sports247 reports.
Although the former Chelsea star is currently nursing a knock that he copped in The Three Lions’ last group match against Panama, Madueke declared emphatically that his thoughts are on how to justify his status as a top player in the squad.

He added that every player in England’s camp is holding the same thought, as they aim to overcome the African hurdle and regain the trust of their fans, who are still disappointed with the team’s belaboured goalless draw versus Ghana.
Although they romped back to defeat Panama 2-0 in their third group game, many England fans and football analysts the world over are yet to forget their insipid show versus Ghana, which Madueke admits the team has to avoid repeating on Wednesday.
DR Congo, whp are playing at their first World Cup since 1974, held Portugal to a 1-1 draw in their first game and are expected to play quite defensively against Thomas Tuchel’s team, but Madueke is ready to bell the cat and help England into the round of 16.
Madueke retorted, “Feel like you’re a top player, you’re here for a reason, you’re playing for your country, you’re on a bigger stage. You have to have excessive confidence in your ability. Alongside your teammates, it’s down to you to deliver.
“When you play England, naturally you’re going to have a defensive approach because of the quality in our team. We have the same patterns and we’ll look to try and implement them a little bit better than we did in the game against Ghana.”
