The National Institute for Sports (NIS), in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, has announced the commencement of an eight-week Summer Basic Coaching Programme in Uyo as part of efforts to expand coaching education and strengthen grassroots football development.

The initiative forms part of the Institute’s nationwide strategy to make professional coaching education more accessible through its zonal centres while equipping aspiring and practicing coaches with modern coaching knowledge and practical skills.

Akwa Ibom State falls under the Institute’s South-South Zonal Centre, headquartered in Benin City, Edo State, as the NIS continues to decentralise its training programmes across the country.
Participants will receive practical and theoretical instruction in coaching fundamentals, training methods, exercise planning, drill organisation and competition management before earning an NIS Certificate of Participation/Completion upon successfully completing the programme.
The course is open to football coaches, grassroots coaches, academy instructors, youth leaders, retired athletes, club coaches, sports administrators and graduates seeking careers in sports coaching.

Under the leadership of Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Comrade Philip Shaibu, the National Institute for Sports has continued to expand its educational programmes through strategic partnerships designed to improve coaching standards nationwide.
The Uyo programme is expected to further strengthen grassroots football development while providing participants with the technical knowledge required to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the game in Nigeria.
Interested participants have been encouraged to register, with the Institute set to announce additional details on the commencement of the programme in the coming weeks.
