Chelle Discloses Three Basic Assets Emergent Players Must Have To Upstage Super Eagles’ Current Stars

Super Eagles’ coach, Eric Sekou Chelle has come out with a disclosure of three basic assets which any player hoping to get a place in his squad must possess, even as he declared that he still has enough confidence in his current array of stars.

Sports247 reports that, while many Nigerian football fans are overly critical of the Eagles’ present quality, considering how they failed to qualify for two straight editions of the FIFA World Cup, Chelle insists all the players are good enough.

He specifically mentioned five of his defenders as key members of the squad who make him happy, and stressed that it would be tough for any emergent lad to upstage them ahead of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

The former Mali and MC Oran FC of Algeria handler cited intensity, aggression and commitment as three major qualities a player hoping to upstage any of the Eagles’ current ensemble of stars must have.

“If you want to break into central defence, you have players like Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Igho Ogbu, Benjamin Frederick and Fernandez competing for places. You have to be better than these players to break into the team.

“To be part of the Super Eagles, you must give everything – intensity, aggression and commitment. Every player must earn his place,” the Franco-Malian tactician, who recently won the 2026 Unity Cup in London, pointed out.
