Nigerian-born fast rising heavyweight boxer, Moses Itauma will get another date with history and a chance to take his unbeaten run further at just 21, as he steps into the roped square once again on August 29th against Filip Hrgovic.
Sports247 gathered that Itauma’s bout with the Croatian pugilist will take place at London’s O2 Arena, following a sealed agreement that confirmed the latest step-up for the prodigy who was crowned British Boxer of The Year 2025.
An initial plan to stage the fight on July 25th had to be dropped when Nigerian-born former two-time world champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua grabbed the date first and Tyson Fury is set for an August 1st outing in Ireland.
Nonetheless, Itauma now has a clear path in his flight towards both fellow-Brits and former champions, as he goes against Hrgovic, but the 34-year-old Croatian heavyweight, who defeated Dave Allen in May, is talking tough already.
Hrgovic said: “I am not afraid of Moses, I am not afraid of anyone, I will fight him, no problem. I know everyone will write me off, because he is the new future superstar, but I can take him to late rounds, deep waters.
“I have never been knocked out in a 20-year career and I have a great chin. So, I know I can test him. He definitely has the skills to be the next face of boxing – speed, timing, combinations, a southpaw stance.”
Sports247 reports further that Itauma stunned the world in his last fight, as he knocked out USA’s Jermaine Franklin at Manchester’s Co-Op centre in March, following which his promoters, Queensberry toyed with the idea of taking him on a tour.
On the other hand, Hrgovic was left in a bloody mess in Saudi Arabia in 2024 by another Nigerian-born former heavyweight champion, Daniel Dubois, but he has since gone on a Brit-bashing rampage by beating Joe Joyce, David Adeleye and Allen.
