Spain defender Marc Cucurella has disclosed that it was difficult for him to turn down Real Madrid offer.
The defender joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in a package worth €60 million (£52m), signing a six-year contract that keeps him at the Bernabéu until 2032.
The transfer was rapidly finalized in roughly a day and a half following direct contact and encouragement from newly appointed Real Madrid manager José Mourinho.

‘It all happened very quickly,’ Cucurella said while on Spain duty at the World Cup. ‘I’m very happy about this new chapter.
‘It was very fast. They called me in the morning and told me the clubs had already agreed. I had no doubts – it was a big step in my career. We had it done in a day, so now I can focus on the World Cup.
‘In the end, you have to respect all opinions,’ he said. ‘Everyone has their own.
‘I’m grateful for everything I experienced in Barcelona, but there are different phases in life. When Real Madrid wants you, it’s very difficult to turn them down. I had no doubt that it was the right move, and I’m very happy with this decision.

‘It’s another step, a very important one. Real Madrid is a great club, one of the best, and the pressure will be immense. When you go to a club like that, it’s for the titles – they have 15 Champions Leagues, so hopefully I can win one with them.
‘My career hasn’t been easy, and having the opportunity to go to Real Madrid is a wonderful thing, a great way to cap off my career. I hope I can lift trophies.’
