Newly appointed Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has expressed excitement after being honoured at the Leadership Summit and Leadership Awards organised by the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Ogun State chapter, held at the CIBN Banquet Hall, Babcock University.
Speaking with Sports247Naija shortly after receiving the award, Busari described the recognition as a significant moment not only for him personally but also for the advancement of football coaching in the Southwest and Nigeria as a whole.

“I feel excited. It’s part of the advancement towards the contribution to the development of coaches in the Southwest and Nigeria at large. It is highly encouraging that the Coaches Association has come together in large numbers to celebrate some of those coaches who have contributed one or two things towards the younger generation coming up,” he said.
The experienced tactician further expressed hope that other states across the country would emulate the Ogun State chapter’s initiative in order to strengthen and add value to coaching development nationwide.
“I think few other states would emulate this to add value to the Coaches Association,” he added.
Responding to questions about inspiring future coaches to follow his path, Busari maintained a humble approach, attributing success to divine grace and dedication.
“As humans, we tend to look to greater heights and still pray to go higher. Everything belongs to Almighty Allah; our own is to remain calm and dedicated to whatever He has placed before us,” he stated.
With the Flamingos currently camping at Remo Stars Stadium ahead of upcoming fixtures, Busari also reflected on his emotional return to Ogun State, where he previously coached Gateway FC several years ago.
“The state is very friendly. I served here with Gateway FC and also in neighbouring clubs like Shooting Stars and Crown FC. Coming back with an award this time is a result of those hard works,” he noted.
“It is always a plus when you do something with passion. I always tell our colleagues that our reward is not only in heaven. When we continue to do more, someone somewhere will definitely identify the hard work,” Busari added.
The Flamingos coach concluded by appealing to football stakeholders, supporters, and fellow coaches to continue praying and supporting the national U-17 women’s team ahead of their forthcoming home and away qualifiers.
