Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has disclosed that facing Morocco in the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be a highly difficult challenge.
Sitting top of Group C, Scotland need only a draw against Morocco at Boston Stadium to all but guarantee their first-ever trip to the knockout stages of a major tournament.
Despite winning their opening game against Haiti, Clarke welcomes being the underdog against Morocco, stating that the Scottish mentality is often better suited to this position.

‘I think this Moroccan side is every bit as good if not better and can certainly go on to become better. They’ll have aspirations to be in the last four again.
‘We give them a lot of respect. They are very talented, they are fantastic players. They have a good work ethic, they have power and pace. They have little bits of skill, they can open a game, they can create one v ones, they can beat you one v one.
‘For me, Morocco are the real deal, a top side. As I keep saying, we have to be at our very, very best to compete. I thought they were excellent first half against Brazil. Brazil showed a little bit of experience in the second half in that game to get back in.
‘We expect a difficult game from both and to try and separate them is difficult.’

‘Against difficult opponents, we have to be very good. We understand that. But sometimes the Scottish psyche and the Scottish mentality mean we are a little bit more comfortable when we are the underdogs.
‘We were the favourites against Haiti and we found the game a struggle, but we managed to win. This time we are the underdogs and sometimes Scotland prefer it that way.’
