Nigerian athletes Emeka Ugwu and Nnamdi Zaza have booked their places at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene after producing outstanding performances in their respective field events.

Sports247 reports that Emeka Ugwu delivered a historic moment after breaking a 21-year-old school record in the men’s shot put, becoming the first male athlete in his program’s history to qualify for the NCAA National Championships in the event.
The Nigerian thrower’s remarkable achievement continues his impressive rise in collegiate athletics, with his consistency and power earning him a place among the top shot put athletes heading into the national championships in Eugene.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian athlete Nnamdi Zaza also secured qualification for the championships after producing a huge throw of 79.41m (260-6) in the men’s javelin event.
The massive effort further confirmed Zaza’s growing reputation as one of the standout javelin throwers in collegiate athletics this season. His qualification adds another major milestone to an already impressive campaign.
