Rita Izoje’s Retirement Golf Championship Drags 80 Players To Asaba On 7th Of November

A total of 80 golfers from all across the country are billed to feature in a special milestone championship being planned to commemorate the retirement of veteran female player Rita Izoje, Sports247 reports.

Izoje, who represented Iboji Golf & Country Club in Nigeria’s team to the 2018 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) in Ghana, is bowing out after making high marks in over three decades across the fairways.

The women’s golf icon, fondly called ‘Lady Pro,’ is highly rated as an international player who brought glory for Nigeria while serving actively as an administrator with the Delta State Sports Commission and excelled with Ibori Golf Club in the capital, Asaba.

The same venue where she dazzled on the green course will now virtually come to a standstill on November 7th, as friends, well-wishers, esteemed personalities and fellow golfers gather to immortalise her 60 years on mother earth and 35 in the civil service, all filled with lifetime memories, achievements, laurels and valuable interactions.

A promotional release ahead of the glorious day stated in part, “Asaba will stand still on Saturday, 7th November, 2026 at the prestigious Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), as captains of industry, golf veterans, athletes and admirers gather for a showdown in her honour.

“This is more than a tournament. It is a salute, a celebration and a final bow to greatness, with 80 players only. Just as the course is set for the swinging, the drums are ready for the occasion, while dancing shoes are being polished for the music to play.”
