Anambra State will set in motion its plan to get tennis talents for the National Sports Festival this weekend, as the maiden Chief Kingsley Oduh competition takes place in Awka.
Sports247 gathered that Saturday and Sunday will be busy for many youngsters, as the chairman of Anambra State Lawn Tennis Association (ASLTA), Chief Kingsley Oduh, puts his passion, money and reputation at stake towards a successful event.
The board member of Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), representing the South East, also disclosed that, aside his desire to keep youngsters busy with sports activities, his biggest target in sponsoring the competition is to set in motion Anambra State’s preparation for Coal City 2026.
Oduh also noted that the state is facing a case of dwindling fortunes in the racquet sport of aces, hence the dire need to put things back on track, especially with Coal City 2026 looming large around the corner.
“The game of tennis in Anambra State is gradually going down and, as chairman in the state, I’ve got to do something to bring the game up. That’s why I’ve decided to sponsor a statewide tennis competition.
“Our best players are expected to be selected from this competition for camping by the Association soon, and they will eventually be invited to the state camp ahead of the Enugu 2026 Games.
“We want to make sure that our players are in good form in readiness for the National Sports Festival in Enugu next month, and we believe that the arrangements will surely pay off,” Oduh disclosed with affirmation.
