WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Face Final-Day Battle for Quarter-Final Spot – All Possible Permutations

The Super Falcons enter the decisive final day of the WAFCON 2026 Group C campaign knowing exactly what is at stake: beat Egypt and keep their title defence alive.

Nigeria revived their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia in their second group match, responding strongly after suffering a shock 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening fixture.

But despite the important win, the reigning African champions are not yet through.

The Super Falcons must now finish the job against Egypt when the two sides meet in the final Group C fixture.

Group C Standings

After two rounds of matches:

Malawi – 6 points, +3 goal difference

Zambia – 3 points, +5 goal difference

Nigeria – 3 points, 0 goal difference

Egypt – 0 points, -8 goal difference

Nigeria and Zambia are level on three points, but Zambia currently have the advantage on goal difference.

That makes the final round particularly intriguing, with Nigeria facing Egypt while Malawi battle Zambia simultaneously.

The Qualification Equation

For Nigeria, the clearest route is simple: beat Egypt, convincingly.

A victory would move the Super Falcons to six points and put them in a strong position to qualify for the quarter-finals.

If Malawi defeat Zambia, Malawi would finish top of the group with nine points, while Nigeria would move into second place on six points.

If Zambia defeat Malawi, Nigeria would also reach six points and remain in contention for second place.

A draw between Malawi and Zambia would take Malawi to seven points. Nigeria, with six points after beating Egypt, would still be in a strong position to finish second.

However, Nigeria’s goal difference could become crucial, particularly because Zambia currently boast a +5 goal difference compared with Nigeria’s zero.

That is why the Super Falcons should not simply aim to win, they should look to win convincingly.
