Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team captain, Harmony Chidi, has expressed confidence in the Flamingos’ readiness ahead of Saturday’s crucial first-leg clash against Benin Republic in the final qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingos will host the Young Amazons of Benin Republic at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, with both teams battling for a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Speaking on Friday in Ikenne ahead of the encounter, Chidi said the team has prepared thoroughly under the guidance of the coaching crew and remains focused on delivering a result that will make Nigerians proud.
“We hand everything over to God because we have worked so hard, and our coaches have given everything for us,” Chidi said.
“We believe in ourselves, and we don’t want to let them down or let Nigeria down.”
The prolific forward, who scored five goals in Nigeria’s emphatic aggregate victory over Guinea in the previous qualifying round, is expected to lead the Flamingos’ attack once again.
Despite reports that Benin Republic have several players of Nigerian origin in their squad, Chidi insisted the Flamingos are concentrating on their own preparations and are determined to take a positive result into the second leg.
Nigeria head into the fixture in excellent form after cruising past Guinea 11-0 on aggregate and recording impressive victories in their warm-up matches.
The return leg is scheduled for July 11, with the aggregate winners securing Africa’s ticket to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
