Nigeria’s men’s senior basketball team, D’Tigers have turned their attention fully towards their last game of the ongoing FIBA World Cup qualification tournament in Luanda, Angola, after allegedly facing a threat of eviction from their hotel.
Sports247 gathered that an official of the global basketball body, FIBA, alleged that Nigeria had yet to pay the team’s registration dues as at Thursday night, but the players and coaches did not allow that to distract them.

Rather than be bugged by administrative issues, D’Tigers’ American coach, David Fizdale marshalled his squad to an 80-79 win over their qualification group leaders, Guinea, thereby putting Nigeria in pole positition for a FIBA World Cup ticket.
Fizdale’s squad went firing on all cyliders from tip-off at Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda, where the players displayed remarkable resilience to strom from behind and snap Guinea’s unbeaten run in Group C of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African qualifiers with a tight 80-79 win.
The victory was Nigeria’s second consecutive triumph in the current qualifying window, following an 84-81 win over Tunisia, and secures their progress to the second round of the qualifiers with one game still to play – which will be on Sunday against Rwanda.
D’Tigers will aim to make it three wins on the trot at this decisive stage of the qualifiers, as they continue their quest for a ticket to the 2027 Basketball World Cup and signals a promising resurgence for the one-time African champions, with eyes on a return to the global showpiece.
