The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to youth empowerment and grassroots sports development following the official induction of fourteen outstanding young basketball players into the Templar-Adrenale International Athlete Development Program.

The induction ceremony, held at the SSA Liaison Office in Surulere, Lagos, marked another major milestone in the strategic partnership between the Office of the SSA on Grassroots Sports Development and the Templar-Adrenale Athlete Development Initiative.
The fourteen athletes emerged from a highly competitive National Basketball Combine that attracted over 200 young players from across Nigeria and were selected based on their talent, performance, discipline, character, and future potential.
Addressing the athletes during the presentation of medals, certificates, and official induction into the program, Hon. Adeboye described the occasion as a defining moment in their lives and a clear reflection of the Federal Government’s determination to create opportunities for young Nigerians through sports.
“Today is not the end of a journey; it is the beginning of one. You have earned this opportunity through hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and belief in yourselves. The responsibility now rests on your shoulders to remain focused, disciplined, humble, and committed to excellence.”
The SSA noted that the initiative aligns strongly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, particularly in the areas of youth development, talent nurturing, education, job creation, and international exposure.
“Mr. President believes strongly in the potential of Nigerian youths. Through strategic partnerships like this, we are creating pathways that will allow our young talents to compete globally, access quality education, build successful careers, and become ambassadors of our nation.”
Hon. Adeboye further stated that the partnership represents a new model for athlete development in Nigeria—one that goes beyond talent discovery to provide structured long-term development, mentorship, education, and global opportunities.
“For too long, many talented young athletes lacked access to the opportunities needed to maximize their potential. Today, we are changing that narrative. Through this partnership, we are building a bridge from our communities to the global stage.”
The selected athletes will now enter an international development structure designed to provide advanced coaching, mentorship, educational support, leadership development, and exposure to elite basketball competitions. The program will also create opportunities for training, talent showcases, and development experiences in the United States and Europe.
Hon. Adeboye emphasized that while the partnership has commenced with basketball, its long-term vision extends far beyond a single sport.
“While we are starting this journey with basketball, this partnership is not limited to one sport. Our vision is to create similar opportunities across multiple sports disciplines. We want talented young Nigerians in football, athletics, volleyball, handball, wrestling, boxing, swimming, and other sports to benefit from the same structured development pathway, international exposure, education support, and mentorship opportunities.”
“This is about building a sustainable system that gives every talented young Nigerian a chance to succeed regardless of their sport. We are creating pathways that will ensure talents discovered at the grassroots are properly nurtured and prepared to compete on the world stage.”
The SSA described the initiative as a practical example of how public-private partnerships can transform grassroots sports development across Nigeria.
“Government cannot do it alone. Partnerships with organizations such as Templar-Adrenale are critical to creating sustainable opportunities for our young people.
This is the future of grassroots sports development, and we welcome more private sector organizations to join us in building the next generation of champions.”
Hon. Adeboye further revealed that discussions are already underway to replicate similar athlete development pathways across other sports, ensuring that talented young Nigerians from different disciplines can benefit from structured support and international opportunities.
The event concluded with the presentation of medals, certificates of recognition, and official induction into the international athlete development programme.
For the fourteen selected athletes, the ceremony represented more than an award presentation—it marked the beginning of a life-changing journey from local courts to the global stage.
As Nigeria continues to invest in grassroots sports development, the partnership between the Office of the SSA and Templar-Adrenale stands as a powerful example of how vision, collaboration, and opportunity can transform dreams into reality.
From grassroots to global, a new generation of Nigerian sporting excellence has begun its journey.
