Super Eagles and Valencia striker Sadiq Umar has called for renewed efforts to improve the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), insisting that while progress has been made in recent seasons, significant work still lies ahead.
The Nigerian international believes the domestic league possesses enormous potential but requires greater investment and structural reforms to compete with the best leagues on the continent.

“Our league can be much better than it is today,” Sadiq said.
The former Flying Eagles striker noted that many Nigerians are passionate about their domestic league and deserve easier access to watch matches and enjoy a better football experience.
According to him, improving the overall organisation of the competition will help restore confidence among supporters.
“A lot of Nigerians want to follow and watch the league, but there are still important areas that need improvement,” he added.
Sadiq singled out officiating as one of the critical areas requiring urgent attention, arguing that consistent and credible refereeing will help raise the quality and integrity of the competition.
He believes that addressing such issues will encourage more investment and attract greater interest from football stakeholders.
“Little things like improving officiating can make a very big difference in raising the standard of football in Nigeria,” he stated.
The Super Eagles forward maintained that with sustained reforms and proper planning, the NPFL can become a stronger platform for developing young talents and producing players capable of excelling both in Nigeria and abroad.
