Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Sanusi Mohammed, has dismissed claims suggesting Nigeria’s squad for the Unity Cup should be regarded as a “Super Eagles Team B.”
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Sanusi stressed that the squad remains the main national team despite the inclusion of several newly invited players.

“This is still the Super Eagles,” Sanusi said.
According to the NFF secretary, the only major difference within the squad is the introduction of fresh faces as coach Eric Chelle continues evaluating more players.
“We simply added some new invitees,” he implied.
Sanusi also rejected suggestions that Nigeria’s opponents at the tournament should be underestimated.
“There are no more underdogs in football,” he noted.
The football administrator stressed that modern football has become increasingly competitive across all levels and regions.
“Every team can surprise you if you relax,” he added.
Nigeria’s Unity Cup campaign is expected to serve as a major evaluation platform ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
“The tournament will reveal many things about the squad,” many football observers believe.
Sanusi remains confident that the Super Eagles will approach the competition with full seriousness despite ongoing rebuilding within the team.
“The mentality must remain strong,” he stressed.
For the NFF secretary, the message is clear.
This is not a second-string national team.
Every opponent deserves respect.
And the Super Eagles remain focused on building toward future success.
Because international football no longer guarantees easy victories for any country.
