The President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has received a six-month tenure extension to continue as head of the country’s customs service, Sports247 gathered.
The extended tenure was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in recognition of Adeniyi’s lofty efforts and long line of achievements as Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
With Adeniyi having combined his dual role as wrestling boss and head of customs quite effectively, he has been granted a final six-month tenure elongation that keeps him in office beyond the initial expiration set for August 1st.

A press release by President Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga explained that the six-month extension, which will expire in February 2027, is to enable Adeniyi consolidate his efforts in implementing the National Single Window initiative and ensure orderly succession in the customs.
“During the transition period, Adeniyi, working with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Board, will ensure the promotion of eligible officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs and the compulsory retirement of officers who have attained 60 years of age or have served 35 years,” the statement added.
Sports247 gathered further that Adeniyi joined Nigeria’s customs after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State in the late 80s.
He rose through the ranks, as deputy comptroller in 2012, comptroller in 2017, assistant comptroller general in 2020, acting deputy comptroller-general in January 2023 and in June 2023 he was appointed Comptroller General.
Adeniyi will also use the latest vote of confidence in his activities as an extra boost to continue working tirelessly in moving Nigeria’s wrestling sector to greater height.
