Second Vice President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Adamu Tenimu, has revealed that the ongoing first phase of the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League is being used to identify players for the country’s national teams.

Tenimu said the federation is closely monitoring performances throughout the competition as it looks to discover the next generation of stars capable of representing Nigeria on the continental stage.
“The league is serving as a scouting platform for our national teams,” Tenimu said.
According to the federation official, selectors and coaches are using the competition to assess emerging talents with a view to strengthening various national squads.
He explained that the objective is to build teams capable of competing consistently against Africa’s traditional volleyball powerhouses.
“We want to compete with countries like Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria,” he added.
Tenimu stressed that discovering and developing home-based players remains central to the federation’s long-term plans.
The official noted that the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League provides an ideal platform for talented players to showcase their abilities and earn national team invitations.
“We are searching for quality local talents who can strengthen our teams,” he stated.
Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria have dominated African volleyball for years, and the federation believes investing in domestic talent is the best route to narrowing the gap.
The ongoing league is expected to produce several new faces as Nigeria continues its efforts to build competitive national teams for future continental and international competitions.
