Nigerian cricketer Chioma Akachukwu has described her return to the national team as a special moment after earning a recall to the Yellow Greens squad for the upcoming Namibia T20 Tri-Series.
The all-rounder returns after a spell away from the national team and admits wearing Nigeria’s colours again remains one of the biggest honours of her career.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to be back,” Akachukwu said.
The experienced player said she remains fully committed to giving her best whenever she is called upon to represent Nigeria.
“I’ll always give everything for my country,” she added.
Akachukwu also reflected on the influence of some of Nigeria’s former cricket stars, crediting them with shaping her mentality and approach to the game.
She singled out former internationals Dou Idi, Uyi Akpata and Tega Tega for helping her understand the standards required at the highest level.
“They taught me what it means to compete and never settle for less,” Akachukwu stated.
According to the all-rounder, the trio’s winning mentality, professionalism and relentless work ethic left a lasting impression on her career.
She now hopes to bring those same qualities into the current Yellow Greens squad as Nigeria prepares for the Namibia tour.
Akachukwu believes the team has the quality to compete strongly and is looking forward to contributing both on and off the field as preparations continue for the T20 Tri-Series.
