Super Eagles’ coach, Eric Sekou Chelle has come out with a down to earth concession that he needs to improve the Nigerian national team with introduction of fresh talents who will bring a new mentality into the squad.

Sports247 reports that the Franco-Malian tactician is still basking in the euphoria of his team’s conquest of the 2026 Unity Cuyp in London as well as a 2-2 draw away to Poland during an international friendly in Warsaw.
Chelle prosecuted the four-nation competition in London with a second-string squad, while many rookies also featured during Wednesday’s friendly in Warsaw, which left Nigerian fans admiring his courage in lining out new stars.
The former Mali and MC Oraan FC of Algeria gaffer has now confirmed his zeal for testing fresh talent in the Eagles, especially as he aims to find a situation in which the team would no longer be dependent on a certain set of star players.
“We analyse our game and we try to put some players who can make the team improve, because it takes one detail to win a trophy. So, we have to improve and I think we have to put some young players who can bring a new mentality.
“(We need) something new because the group has the mentality to win, but we need to put in something fresh. Some players will come with lots of energy. They will bring something like they want to win, to improve and the team can be for them.”
Sports247 gathered further that Chelle is already looking ahead towards this Wednesday’s high-profile friendly against Portugal, with a hint that some new and young players would again get opportunities to bring fresh ideas into the team.
Chelle will also compile data gained from all four matches his team played this summer and collate strategies from all the friendlies to prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar.
