The emergence of Nigerian midfielder, Chrisantus Uche with the best goal award in this season’s UEFA Conference League has raised eyebrows about his snub by Crystal Palace of England, Sports247 gathered.

Uche played for Palace this season on loan from Getafe of Spain, but many football analysts in England are now wondering why The Eagles chose to release him instead of trying to buy his contract outright.
This comes after the sporting media was set into frenzy on Friday evening, following the official announcement of a goal by Uche as the best in this season’s Conference League, which Palace surprisingly won the week prior.
The talking point across the UK’s media was how Uche gained such a prestigious award despite not being able to stamp his feet into the mainframe at Crystal Palace while playing the whole season on loan from Getafe.
The development also raised eyebrows over Uche’s impending return to Getafe, as he could not get ten starting spots with The Eagles in combined games of the English Premier League and continent as stipulated in his loan agreement.
On the other hand, where Palace stand to lose Uche’s quality next season, the lanky Super Eagles’ fringe player will boldly head back to Getafe, where he emerged as a stunning revelation in his very first season with the La Liga side.
Getafe’s top brass and fans will gladly welcome him back, while taking note that this Nigerian lad could jolly well make a huge difference for them in the coming campaign, based on his historic Conference League award.
A report by Tribal Football added in part, “Uche has been voted the winner of the UEFA Europa Conference League Fans’ Goal of the Season award with his stunning strike in a 2-2 draw against Finnish side KuPS Kuopio in December 2025.
“The Nigeria international produced a moment of brilliance after collecting the ball just outside the penalty area, skipping past his marker with a clever dribble before curling a superb effort beyond the goalkeeper and into the net.
“The goal was one of two Uche scored during Palace’s Europa Conference League campaign and one of the competition’s finest moments. Shakhtar Donetsk’s Isaque Silva finished second with an acrobatic overhead kick against Lech Poznań.
“Florian Lejeune of Rayo Vallecano took third place for his long-range strike against Drita, while Aboubakary Koita and Alemao completed the top five for their memorable goals in the competition.”
