Slavia Prague Of Czech Republic defender, Igoh Ogbu is heading back to his club from Nigeria’s national team’s camp in Portugal after picking up an injury in training with the Super Eagles.

Sports247 reports that Ogbu will subsequently miss Wednesday’s international friendly between Nigeria and Portugal, after copping what has been described as a ‘suspected rupture of his left Achilles tendon.’
Team officials confirmed that Ogbu will not be part of Nigeria’s squad for the midweek clash due to the injury he suffered during Saturday’s training session in Leiria, where Wednesday’s match versus hosts Portugal will take place.
Eagles’ media officer, Promise Efoghe added that the product of Gombe United FC, who previously played for Rosenborg, Levanger, Sogndal and Lillestrøm, got the injury during Saturday’s session and will immediately return to his Czech club.
While his national team colleagues line out against Cristiano Ronaldo’s side for the second ever friendly between both countries, Ogbu will be back at his club’s base in Prague to begin treatment and rehabilitation.
This puts an end to a recent surge for the 26-year-old centre back, who featured in Nigeria’s two matches at the 2026 Unity Cup in London and started last Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Poland before being replaced by Semi Ajayi at half-time.
“Defender, Igho Ogbu has been ruled out of the friendly against Portugal after sustaining an injury in training this evening. Team medics describe the situation as a suspected rupture of his left Achilles tendon,” Efoghe stated.
Sports247 reports further that Ogbu’s absence will create a tactical headache for Eagles’ coach, Eric Chelle, who earlier hinted he would likely retain the same starting line-up for Wednesday’s tie at Estádio Municipal Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa in Leiria.
