Rosemary Chukwuma clinched her first senior continental medal after winning the silver medal in the women’s 100m final at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
The Nigerian sprint star powered to the finish line in 11.44 seconds to secure the medal and further strengthen Team Nigeria’s impressive medal haul at the continental competition.

Chukwuma, a former Texas Tech University athlete, had shown signs of dominance from the opening rounds, cruising through her heats with ease to emerge as one of the favourites for the title.
She carried that form into the final, where she came second to claim the biggest senior title of her career.
Her podium finish continued Nigeria’s strong showing in the sprint events, with compatriots Miracle Ezechukwu and Tejiri Praise Ugoh also impressing during the women’s 100m rounds.
Chukwuma’s silver came shortly after Tobi Amusan delivered another commanding performance to win the women’s 100m hurdles title, underlining Nigeria’s dominance on the track in Accra.
The latest victory adds to Team Nigeria’s growing medal tally as the championships continue, with several athletes still in contention across multiple events.
