Board member of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Endurance Ofem, has expressed confidence that new coach Stephen Mangongo possesses the experience and quality needed to elevate Nigerian cricket to a higher level.

Speaking on the appointment of the Zimbabwean tactician, Ofem described Mangongo as one of the leading cricket coaches in Africa.
“We believe Stephen Mangongo is one of the best cricket coaches on the continent,” Ofem said.
According to the NCF board member, the federation deliberately targeted a coach with strong international pedigree as part of efforts to close the gap on Africa’s cricket powerhouses.
“We wanted someone with higher-level experience,” he implied.
Mangongo previously worked with the Zimbabwe national cricket team at both youth and senior World Cup levels.
“He has valuable international experience,” Ofem noted.
The federation official stressed that Nigeria hopes to learn from established cricket nations such as South Africa and Zimbabwe as the sport continues developing locally.
“We want Nigeria to compete more strongly with the best teams in Africa,” he added.
Ofem also expressed optimism that Mangongo’s expertise will help accelerate player development and improve overall standards within Nigerian cricket over the coming years.
“His experience can help fast-track our growth,” he stressed.
