Lagos State commissioner for youth and social development, Mobolaji Ogunlende has described the forthcoming Motherland Heritage Cup as a landmark initiative that will further elevate global reckoning for The Centre of Excellence.

Sports247 reports that Ogunlende’s verdict came after he represented Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the official introduction of the innovative eight-nation competition, which is also tagged a landmark invitational tournament.
Officials added that the competition aims to celebrate African heritage and global unity, through the combined tools of football, arts and Afrobeats, to bring together global icons in a blend of sporting action, tech showcases and music concerts.
Ogunlende disclosed, “I had the honour of representing the Executive Governor of Lagos State as the Chief Host at the unveiling of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (P.B.A.T.) Motherland Heritage Cup 2026.
“The event showcased a bold vision to position Lagos as a global hub for sports, culture, tourism, trade, and investment, while strengthening ties between Africa and the diaspora through the unifying power of football and Afrobeats.
“A major highlight of the occasion was the conferment of prestigious Life Patron honour on Prince Tajudeen Olusi, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to nation-building, leadership, and advancement of progressive ideals.
“His decades of service and unwavering commitment continue to inspire generations of Nigerians. I commend the organisers for this visionary project and look forward to its immense cultural, social, and economic impact on our state and nation.
“The Motherland Heritage Cup 2026 promises to be a landmark initiative that will further elevate Lagos’ global profile, create economic opportunities, and celebrate our rich heritage.”
Sports247 reports further that Motherland Cup is highly rated as a Pan-African football tournament that is unlike anything Nigeria has seen before and will be hosted in four of the country’s ‘most electric cities.’
The competition, which will also will bring together voices across the continent and diaspora in unity and purpose, is organised by Discover Motherland Africa in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy.
Eight countries are billed to feature in the competition from Novemver 6th to 16th, with matches taking place in Abuja, Lagos, Uyo and Kano.
