Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has welcomed a baby girl with his wife, Melissa, just days before Nigeria’s 2026 Unity Cup final against Jamaica in London.

Turkish club Trabzonspor confirmed the joyful news on Wednesday, congratulating the Nigerian centre-back and revealing the name of the newborn child, Jacinta.
“We wholeheartedly congratulate Chibuike Nwaiwu on the joy of becoming a father and wish their little one, whom they named Jacinta, a healthy and happy life,” the club stated on its official website.
The heartwarming moment comes at a crucial period for the 22-year-old, who is currently in camp with the Super Eagles ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated Unity Cup final against Jamaica at The Valley.
Nwaiwu played the entire 90 minutes in Nigeria’s 2-0 semifinal victory over Zimbabwe, delivering another composed and disciplined performance in defence as the Super Eagles booked their place in the final.
The former Enyimba star has enjoyed an impressive rise since completing his winter transfer from Austrian club Wolfsberger AC to Trabzonspor.
Since arriving in Turkey, the defender has quickly become an important figure for Trabzonspor, contributing strongly at the back while also helping the club secure the Turkish Cup title.
His consistent displays earned him recognition from the Super Eagles coaching crew, with Nwaiwu now expected to play a key role as Nigeria aim to successfully defend the Unity Cup crown.
The Super Eagles defeated Jamaica in dramatic fashion to win the 2025 edition of the competition, triumphing 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Nigeria will now hope to repeat that success when they face the Reggae Boyz once again in London, with Nwaiwu heading into the final boosted by a memorable personal milestone.
