Nasarawa Amazons assistant coach Seyi Olaoye has expressed disappointment following his side’s unexpected 2-0 defeat to FC Robo Queens on Matchday Three of the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership Super Six in Port Harcourt.
The Lafia-based side went into the encounter as one of the favourites after an impressive start to the competition, but second-half goals from Opeyemi Ajakaye and Kemi Adegbuyi handed Robo Queens a vital victory and condemned the Amazons to their first defeat of the tournament.
Following a goal less first half, Robo Queens found the breakthrough in the 59th minute through Ajakaye before Adegbuyi doubled the lead five minutes later to complete a memorable upset.
Reacting after the game, Olaoye admitted his team failed to perform to their usual standard.
“We didn’t play as expected,” the assistant coach said after the match.
“The way we used to play our ball is possession-based. We didn’t keep the ball to keep possession today, so we’ll go back and work on it for our next game.”
Despite the disappointing result, Olaoye refused to single out any player or member of the coaching staff for blame, insisting the defeat was a collective responsibility.
“We win as a team, we lose as a team. It’s a team game. So there’s no player that we say is a scapegoat now,” he stated
The loss dealt a significant blow to Nasarawa Amazons’ title ambitions, with the Super Six standings becoming increasingly competitive after Matchday Three.
However, Olaoye maintained that his side remains firmly in the race for the title with two crucial matches still left to play.
“Before the competition started, we said we want to compete and win, and that’s what we are here to do. We are still in contention. We have two games and we’ll take every game as it comes,” he added.
The result marked FC Robo Queens’ first win of the Super Six campaign and significantly boosted the Lagos club’s hopes in the title race, while Nasarawa Amazons will now look to bounce back in their two remaining fixtures.
