“It was a very good run out for the team,” Sodje said.
According to the former defender, introducing new players during the tournament was an important step toward rebuilding and strengthening the squad.
“It was a smart decision to give the new players opportunities,” he implied.
Sodje also revealed that some of the debutants impressed strongly enough to deserve more game time moving forward.
“A few players really stood out,” he noted.
The former Super Eagles player specifically singled out Femi Azeez for praise after the Millwall forward delivered an impressive performance on his debut.
“Femi Azeez was excellent,” he added.
Sodje praised the attacker for quickly transferring his club form to the national team environment.
“It’s a good sign when a player settles in immediately,” he stressed.
Azeez’s display against Zimbabwe has already generated excitement among supporters as competition for attacking positions increases within the Super Eagles squad.
“He looks like a player with confidence and quality,” many football observers believe.
The Unity Cup continues serving as an important evaluation platform for coach Eric Chelle ahead of the AFCON qualifiers.
“This tournament could produce new stars for Nigeria,” supporters continue to say.
For Sam Sodje, the message is clear.
The new players deserve trust.
Femi Azeez made a strong statement.
And the Super Eagles rebuild is beginning to show promising signs.
Because national teams improve when fresh talents are given opportunities to shine.
