Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, has assured that the federation will immediately begin preparations for the organisation of the country’s first CAF A coaching course in nine years.
This is following Nigeria’s return to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) A Coaching Convention.

CAF officially approved Nigeria’s return to the convention after endorsing the CAF A course curriculum submitted by the NFF, paving the way for the federation to resume the activation of CAF A coaching courses for Nigerian coaches.
In a letter addressed to the NFF on Wednesday, CAF Coaching Education Project Manager, Jaida Zakaria, confirmed the approval and authorised the federation to proceed with the next stage of the process.
“We are pleased to inform you that the CAF A course curriculum submitted by NFF has been approved. You can now proceed with submitting a request for a CAF A course through the CMS, subject to an inspection visit,” the letter stated.
Reacting to the development, Sanusi described the approval as a major breakthrough for coaching development in Nigeria and promised that the federation would waste no time in putting the necessary logistics in place.
“We are elated by this positive development for the cause of coaching in our country.”
“The NFF will commence preparations in earnest to put logistics in place for the first CAF A-License coaching course in this country since 2017,” Sanusi said.
The NFF General Secretary, who is also a CAF coaching instructor, noted that the return of the CAF A coaching programme would create fresh opportunities for Nigerian coaches to improve their qualifications and technical capacity without travelling outside the country.
Also reacting to the approval, NFF Head of Coaching Education, Dr Terry Babatunde Eguaoje, expressed delight over Nigeria’s readmission into the CAF A Coaching Convention.
“This is truly huge, after nine years! Admission into the CAF A coaching convention is a big deal. This is in addition to the CAF D, C and B that had been approved at various times by CAF,” Eguaoje stated.
The development is expected to boost coaching education in Nigeria and further strengthen the technical growth of football across the country.
