Remo Stars have vowed they will make an instant return to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, following their relegation on the final day of the 2025/26 season, Completesports.com reports.
The Sky Blue Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Sunday.
Experienced Victor Mbaoma gave Usman Abdallah’s side the lead on the stroke of half time, while Chijioke Akuneto levelled for Bendel Insurance in stoppage time.
Remo Stars, who won the NPFL title for the first time last season finished the campaign in 17th position with 47 points from 38 matches.
The Ikenne club became the fourth reigning NPFL champions to suffer relegation while defending their title, following in the footsteps of defunct Stationery Stores, Shooting Stars, and Bayelsa United.
El-Kanemi Warriors, Bayelsa United, and Wikki Tourists were the other clubs relegated at the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Meanwhile, Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos, Doma United, and Ranchers Bees secured promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Remo Stars Want Immediate NPFL Return
Remo Stars admitted the team failed to produce the performances and consistency required to avoid relegation, but vowed to focus on returning the club to its rightful place.
“Following the conclusion of the 2025-26 NPFL season, Remo Stars will now compete in the Nigeria National League, NNL, next season,” Remo Stars wrote in a statement.
“The outcome of the season is very disappointing for everybody connected to the club, supporters, players, staff and management who have invested emotions into the journey.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration this season has brought, the expectation attached to this club are high.
“We didn’t deliver the performance and consistency required to maintain our place in the division.
“Important decisions will be made and every effort will be directed towards returning the club to where it belong.”
