Has Justin Rose leaked Chelsea's new kit? Golfer arrives at the PGA Championship sporting retro Blues shirt

Fans believe golf star Justin Rose may have accidentally leaked Chelsea’s home shirt for next season. 

Rose arrived at the PGA Championship in Pennsylvania on Thursday sporting a retro-looking Chelsea strip, but nobody could place when it was from.

Chelsea are yet to release their kits for next season and the same applies to their manufacturer Nike. 

And so the theory has spread that Rose, a Chelsea fan who lives in London, may have been gifted one by the club and accidentally – or indeed intentionally – stepped out wearing it. 

The deep blue shirt features a departure from their typical badge, with a bold yellow lion replacing their circular crest on the top left corner of the torso.

On the right side, there’s the yellow Nike logo, while the shirt has a polo v-neck.

While many fans bought into the possibility of this being the Blues’ new shirt, there was a mixed consensus on how good it actually looks. 

‘I think it’s class, Levi [Colwill] would look good in it,’ one fan said on X. 

‘Looks sharp ngl… got that retro vibes,’ another said. 

‘A part of me never wants to have a permanent front of shirt sponsor. The kit’s look is clean without it,’ one commented.

One particularly overjoyed fan said: ‘This is gonna be a phenomenal kit on the players next season. Can’t wait man, I love kits with collars.’ 

Others weren’t so enthusiastic. 

‘Genuinely a terrible kit,’ wrote one detractor.

‘That’s £80 more staying in my bank account this summer I can’t complain. What a s*** kit,’ said another. 

One user, perhaps a member of Chelsea’s finance department, wrote: ‘It desperately needs a sponsor. Without it, it looks so plain and boring.’

Rose’s faux pas comes in the same week that Chelsea’s new kit was apparently leaked on the website ‘Footy Headlines’, which looked largely the same but had a large background image of Chelsea’s current badge.

English golfer Rose, who won the 2013 US Open, has a history with Chelsea.

In 2016, then-captain John Terry gave him a tour around the club’s Cobham training base.

Terry posted a photo of himself and Rose chipping at the training ground, with the caption: ‘Great day showing Justin Rose and his boy Leo around the training ground today. We had a chipping competition which will be shown on Chelsea TV.’

The ex-Olympic gold medallist is occasionally seen at Stamford Bridge.
