Utah football star under investigation for alleged rape… before 'sharing sordid video on Snapchat'

A college football star has been suspended by his team amid an ongoing investigation into an alleged rape and forcible sodomy of a woman.

Utah Utes senior defensive tackle Jamal Wallace was suspended from the program earlier this month, a team athletics spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.

Salt Lake County jail dockets show Wallace was arrested and booked on October 11 on suspicion of distributing an intimate image, which is a misdemeanor.

According to arrest documents obtained by The Salt Lake Tribune, the arrest followed accusations he shared an explicit video of the alleged assault on Snapchat.

Wallace was booked on suspicion of five misdemeanor counts, though prosecutors have not filed formal criminal charges as of Wednesday.

Arrest records show Wallace remains under investigation for allegations of rape and forcible sodomy, but he was not arrested on sexual assault charges.

During a police interview, Wallace strongly denied sexually assaulting the woman, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by local outlets.

Wallace allegedly told investigators that he only accessed the woman’s Snapchat account to see whom she had been communicating with.

The Utah player was released from Salt Lake County jail after posting $5,000 bail.

In a statement provided to The Daily Mail, a Utah athletics spokesperson said: ‘We were made aware of the situation with Jamal Wallace on Oct. 11, and he was immediately placed on an indefinite suspension from the program.’

‘We take these matters seriously. As this is a pending legal matter, we have no further comment at this time,’ the university added.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a woman reported to Salt Lake City police that Wallace was her ‘off-and-on dating partner.’

The woman told authorities she met Wallace on October 9 to discuss their relationship, alleging he forced her to engage in non-consensual sexual acts.

She alleged that during the encounter, Wallace grabbed her mobile phone under the pretext of wanting to change the music that was playing.

After he left, the woman alleged she discovered Wallace had filmed the encounter on her phone and sent the footage to five Snapchat contacts.

According to the affidavit, the woman told police she felt ‘confused and disgusting’ after seeing the sent videos and subsequently had an examination done.

Wallace allegedly told an officer he became upset after checking the woman’s Snapchat and seeing messages between her and other men.

Investigating officers reported finding two sexually explicit videos on the account, stating the phone appeared to be in Wallace’s possession when recorded.

Wallace joined Utah this past offseason after transferring from Tennessee, where his 2024 season was limited to three games due to injuries.

The senior lineman appeared in just one game for the Utes this season, taking rotational snaps during their September 3 opener against Idaho.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Salt Lake police for further details.
