Super Eagles striker Rafiu Durosinmi made an instant impact for KRC Genk, scoring on his competitive debut against Zulte Waregem in the opening weekend of the 2026/27 Belgian Pro League season.
The Nigerian forward was handed a starting role by head coach Jess Thorup and opened his Genk account in the 39th minute, rising above the Zulte Waregem defence to head his side into the lead.
The goal provided an early glimpse of the qualities Genk identified when signing the 23-year-old from Italian side Pisa SC this summer.
Genk officially completed Durosinmi’s signing in July, handing the Nigerian a four-year contract until June 2030. The Belgian club described him as a complete centre-forward capable of combining physical strength, technical ability and a proven eye for goal.
Durosinmi’s debut goal was particularly encouraging given the expectations surrounding his arrival. Genk had identified the former Viktoria Plzeň striker as a player capable of making an immediate impact, with the Nigerian having scored 35 goals in 86 appearances during his time in the Czech Republic.
Although Genk ultimately suffered a late defeat to Zulte Waregem, Durosinmi’s individual performance provided a major positive from the opening fixture.
The Nigerian was subsequently named Man of the Match, underlining the impact of his first competitive appearance for the club.
Durosinmi will now look to build on his impressive introduction as Genk continues its 2026/27 campaign, with the Super Eagles forward already giving Nigerian fans plenty of reason to be optimistic about his new adventure in Belgium.
