Former Nigerian international Abiodun Obafemi expressed disappointment after the Super Falcons were eliminated in the quarter-final of the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Recall that Nigeria narrowly lost to Cameroon thanks to Myriam Nyadjou’s brilliant free-kick to give Cameroon the surprise 1-0 quarter-final victory over Falcons, the defending champions, in Casablanca on Sunday.

The 19-year-old struck after 19 minutes, slamming a rising shot past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and into the corner of the net.
With that, Nigeria have lost out on an automatic ticket to the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Reacting after the game, Abiodun, in a chat with Completesports.com, stated that he was disappointed with the final outcome of the game against Cameroon.
“I feel sad and disappointed that the Super Falcons lost 1-0 to their Cameroonian counterpart. However, it is what it is at the moment.
“I believe the Super Falcons players will also feel the same disappointment as well, considering the fact that they won’t have the chance to defend their trophy again.
“We can always learn from our mistakes and be stronger in future competitions.”

The Super Falcons have never before failed to reach at last the semifinals in the 35-year history of Africa’s premier international competition for women players.
The win means a World Cup place for Cameroon, who will face Morocco in Wednesday’s semifinal in Rabat, while Nigeria must face South Africa in one of Wednesday’s ‘play-ins’ to reach the inter-confederation playoffs for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
