Nigerian basketball stakeholders heaved a sigh of relief relief and went into a raucous celebration on Thursday evening, following the men’s national team, D’Tigers’ victory over Tunisia.
Sports247 reports that many Nigerian fans, administrators, coaches, and players roared with delight as news filtered in that the D’Tigers had pulled off a dramatic 84-81 victory over Tunisia at the FIBA Africa World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Luanda.

It has been described as a brilliant start for the Nigerian team, as they took to the court against one of their biggest rivals and boogey team less than 24 hours after they landed in the Angolan capital for the decisive competition.
It was also the first game for the squad under the guidance of their new American coach, David Fizdale, who is barely a month on the job he was saddled with by Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF).
Top officials in the crises-torn NBBF will also take delight from a breath of fresh air that the victory brings, as it will somewhat take attention away from an ongoing debate raging over interpretations of the current administration’s tenure in office.
Fizdale and his crew will, however, have to quickly push aside their celebration in order to turn attention on their remaining two games in the competition, which is officially a final qualification window for next year’s FIBA Men’s Senior World Cup.
The Nigerian squad will hope to consolidate on their victory over Tunisia with another successful outing against current group leaders, Guinea on Friday, before ending their qualification quest versus Rwanda on Saturday.
