This summer continues with many bolts of suspense and uncertainty for Sheffield United of England defender, Femi Seriki, whose hope of getting a transfer to Sassuolo of Italy has been dashed by officials at his present ream.
Sports247 gathered that Seriki had been banking on a move to the modest Italian outfit this summer, considering that he has been out of regular first team reckoning at Sheffield in recent months.
A move to Italy would have helped the once highly-celebrated defender put his career back on track with more playing time elsewhere, but The Blades’ management snubbed a promising offer that recently came his way from Sassuolo.
However, a report by Sky Sports disclosed Sheffield are not sure about their plans for Seriki, with a hint already emerging that The Blades might consider letting him go on loan to another club in England, rather than sell him to an European side under unfavourable terms.
Despite Sheffield’s stand, though, the last has not been heard about Sassuolo’s interest in the Nigerian-born defender, as the Italian outfit are said to be considering lodging an improved bid to get him before the summer transfer window closes.
“The Italian club’s proposal was understood to be an initial loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent for £5m but The Blades turned down the approach and are yet to agree on a deal for the 24-year-old.
“Seriki joined Sheffield United from Bury in 2019 and has made 69 appearances for the club. The defender has also gained experience through several loan spells, representing Beerschot, Boston United, Rochdale and Rotherham.
“Sassuolo could now consider making an improved offer as they look to strengthen their defensive options, while Sheffield United will assess Seriki’s future ahead of the new campaign,” the reported revealed.
