One-cap Nigerian striker, Joshua Maja could this month be on his way back to France after three turbulent years in England with Fulham, Stoke City, and West Bromwich Albion, Sports247 reports.
Although Maja previously showed promising signs during his youth days at Crystal Palace, Fulham, Manchester City and Sunderland, he failed to settle after returning from France in 2023, following a successful stint with Girondins Bordeaux, which he joined in 2019.
However, the 27-year-old striker, whose full name is Joshua Erowoli Orisunmibare Oluwaseun Maja and was born in Lewisham, England to Nigerian parents, spent only one year each with the first two English clubs he played for (and three at WBA) after returning in 2023.
The story is about to change, though, as Maja appears to be heading for a new lease of life this season, following reports that midstream French Ligue 1 outfit, Le Havre have launched a strong bid to hook his signature this month.
Reports out of France indicate that Maja will soon be on his way back across the English Channel, with Le Havre closing in on signing him as a free-agent, with high hopes of strengthening their attack ahead of the new season.
A report by French publication, L’Equipe added: “The 27-year-old Nigeria international is set to join Le Havre on a two-year contract, with an option for a third.
“Maja became a free agent following the expiry of his three-year deal. He previously enjoyed two spells (in France) with Bordeaux between 2019 and 2023, scoring 16 goals during their 2022/23 Ligue 2 campaign.
“Maja is expected to add valuable experience to Le Havre’s squad, as they target another season in Ligue 1 (with) a new centre-forward after Issa Soumaré departed for Rennes”
