Flying Eagles head coach Abdu Maikaba has admitted that Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Togo in the WAFU B U-20 Boys Championship was much more difficult than the final score suggested, praising his players for overcoming a stubborn opponent to maintain their perfect start.

The Flying Eagles followed up their impressive 4-2 victory over Ghana with another commanding display to strengthen their chances of reaching the semi-finals and securing qualification for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking after the match, Maikaba revealed that Togo posed several tactical problems, particularly after the break, forcing his side to adjust its approach.
“It was a difficult game despite the scoreline. Togo gave us a lot to think about, especially in the second half, and we had to find a way to neutralise them,” Maikaba said.
The experienced tactician credited his team’s attacking quality for making the difference at crucial moments, insisting the players remained patient before taking control of the contest.
“We played to our strengths in attack, and that’s what helped us score the goals. The players showed great character and discipline throughout the game,” he added.
Nigeria has now scored seven goals in two matches, a statistic Maikaba believes reflects the growing confidence and understanding within the squad as the tournament progresses.
The Flying Eagles have emerged as one of the early favourites at the regional championship, with their attacking performances providing encouragement ahead of the decisive stages of the competition.
With maximum points from their opening two fixtures, Nigeria is well placed to challenge for the WAFU B title and secure one of the coveted qualification tickets to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, where the continent’s best young teams will compete for places at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
