Nigerian-born female boxer, Caroline Dubois has come out with an explanation of her decision to drop her long-time coach, Shane McGuigan, and opt for a new trainer, who she believes can help her reach the height of her career, Sports247 reports.
The younger sister of former heavyweight boxing champion, Daniel Dubiois, admitted she had gained immense benefits and highpoints of her career under McGuigan, but stressed that she needs something extra, as she gets ready to defend her WBC and WBO lightweight titles.
The 25-year-old female boxer with a Nigerian mother and father from Grenada will defend her titles against Amelia Moore in Birmingham City, England on August 29th, ahead of which she has announced that her new trainer is Manny Robles.
Dubois said she hopes to get better leverage with the man who trained Andy Ruiz Jr, Oscar Valdez and Brandon Figueroa, as she aims to dominate the global women’s boxing terrain, bit still reiterated lots of gratitude to McGuigan, who began working with her in 2021.
“Most times, fighters leave a coach when they’ve lost, and they want someone to blame or throw under the bus. That’s a lame move. At the end of the day, I’m so happy and proud of the journey we had together. I’ve become the unified world champion.
“I’ve announced myself into women’s boxing on the biggest stage possible and we did that with Shane McGuigan as my coach and as a massive part of my team. I just want to say a massive thank you to Shane McGuigan, who was a phenomenal coach and is a phenomenal coach.
“I’m honoured, proud and privileged to be part of that. I’m on a quest for greatness and will do whatever it takes to get there. For me, moving to America and trying a different coaching team is a part of that quest. I want to grow and develop and be the best fighter you’ve ever seen.”
Sports247 reports further that Caroline Sara Dubois, who started boxing at the age of nine, has held the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight title since December 2024 as well as World Boxing Organization (WBO) and Ring magazine belts since April 2026.
At the start of her career as an amateur, she was Youth Olympic Games gold medalist, World Youth Boxing Championship winner and four-time European Youth title holder, folllowing which she was previously International Boxing Organization (IBO) lightweight champion.
