Chairman of Naija Ratels and the Benue State Football Association, Paul Edeh, has expressed strong belief that the Super Falcons will recover from their disappointing start to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) when they take on Zambia in a must-win Group C encounter.

Nigeria’s campaign suffered an early setback after a shock 3-2 defeat to Malawi, leaving the defending champions needing a positive result against the Copper Queens to boost their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.
Despite the pressure surrounding the team, Edeh has thrown his full support behind head coach Justin Madugu and his players, insisting they have what it takes to revive their title defence.
“I have confidence in Coach Justin Madugu and the players. They are capable of turning things around, and I’m convinced they will produce the right response against Zambia,” Edeh said.
The football administrator believes the Super Falcons possess the quality and experience required to overcome the disappointment of their opening defeat and remain in contention for the title.
“I’m certain the team will stage a comeback. I also believe they will qualify for the knockout stage because this squad has the mentality to respond when it matters most,” he added.
Nigeria heads into Saturday’s fixture knowing that victory would significantly strengthen its chances of advancing to the quarterfinals after the unexpected loss to tournament debutants Malawi.
Edeh urged supporters to continue backing the team, stressing that setbacks are part of football and should not overshadow the Super Falcons’ long-standing record of success on the continent.
A positive result against Zambia would not only revive Nigeria’s campaign but also reinforce confidence that the 10-time African champions remain capable of mounting another challenge for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
