Second vice-presidnet of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Akuchukwu Aghazu has come out with a bold declaration that all members of the country’s track and field team to this year’s Commonwealth Games will justify the federal government’s support by enacting strong performances in all their events.
Sports247 reports that Aghazu gave the huge promise while speaking about expectations from the AFN’s contingent at the Games that began on Thursday, while also revealing that she has a lot of confidence in the quality of the 29-member athletics contingent.

Aghazu stressed that the Nigerian team possesses the right quality of talent, deep levels of determination and tight proportions of unity required to enable them compete favourable and pull off a successful quest for medals at the huge multi-sport terain of the Commonwealth.
She added that Nigeria’s athletics team, which consists of 16 female and 13 male competitors, is a qualitative blend of experience with youth that will excel in Glasgow, because they have received adequate motivation from the Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission (NSC).
While commending the NSC for ensuring the team got all necessary backing ahead of the Games, Aghazu further disclosed that the athletes are all in Glasgow with a strong sense of discipline and shared purpose, while also motivating one another to achieve outstanding performances in the competition.
Aghazu disclosed gleefully, “There is a wonderful spirit in camp. The athletes are united, the coaches are working tirelessly, and everyone understands the responsibility of representing over 200 million Nigerians.
“The environment has been friendly, professional and highly motivating. That gives us confidence going into the Games. Support from the Federal Government through the National Sports Commission has also been encouraging.
“Our athletes have been given the platform to prepare properly, and the atmosphere around the team has been very positive. We appreciate the confidence reposed in the athletes and we are determined to justify that support with strong performances in Glasgow.”
