A budding basketball player and graduate of Crawford University at Igbesa, David Olasunkanmi Awotedu has come out with a startling revelation that he admires USA’s Nigerian-born sensation, Bam Adebayo, but does not support the star’s club.
Sports247 reports that, while the two-time Olympic Games gold medalist and National Basketball Association (NBA) star, whose real name is Edrice Femi Adebayo, plays for Miami Heat, Awotedu loves to support the league’s former champions, Golden State Warriors.

Dramatically, although another Nigerian-born player, Giannis Antetokounmpo (The Greek Freak) recently joined Adebayo at The Heat, Awotedu does not even rate the Miami-based side as second-best team on his card of favourites.
That spot goes to New Orleans Hornets, who the graduate of Computer Science said he would love to play for it he gets the chance to feature in the NBA, which he described as a basketball league that has no rival.
Awotedu pointed out that playing actively in Nigeria would have been an ideal stepping stone for him to the NBA, but asserted that clubs in the country do not encourage young players.
Consequently, while he awaits a breakthrough offer, the amiable and highly jocular point guard, who hails from Iperu Remo in Ogun State, is currently keeping himself in shape by playing at the open air courts of Abesan Estate, in Ipaja area of Lagos.
Having completed his National Youth Service (NYSC) year, Awotedu pointed out that he is now free to face the game of giants squarely, but confessed that he is never encouraged by the current state of the domestic basketball league.
“I would have loved to play professional basketball in Nigeria,” Awotedu told Sports247, “but the conditions here are not favourable for young players. Even older ones are struggling to survive.
“If I had a choice, I would like to play for either Golden State or The Hornets. I like both teams, but my favourite player is Bam Adebayo, because he has Nigerian descent.”
Awotedu further acknowledged that Antetokounmpo is also a top-notch player in the NBA, but reckoned that his name reflects more of Greece, which the star represents, than his parents’ country, Nigeria.
