Emmanuel Ekong’s proposed move to Croatian giants Hajduk Split has collapsed after the Nigerian-born forward failed his medical examination.
According to Croatian news outlet 24sata, Hajduk have decided to pull out of the deal after the 23-year-old did not pass a routine medical assessment.
Ekong had been expected to join Hajduk Split from Swedish champions Malmö FF on an initial season-long loan, with the Croatian club holding an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.
The transfer had appeared to be in its final stages, with both clubs working towards completing the necessary paperwork before the medical setback brought negotiations to an abrupt end.

The attacker was notably left out of Malmö’s matchday squad for Allsvenskan’s clash against Kalmar.
Club officials explained before the game that Ekong was close to completing a move to another club, further fuelling expectations that the switch to Hajduk would soon be confirmed.
With the transfer now off, Ekong is expected to return to Malmö, although his immediate future remains uncertain as the Swedish club could explore alternative options before the transfer window closes.
Ekong joined Malmö from Italian Serie A side Empoli and has represented Sweden at various youth levels despite being eligible to play for Nigeria through his family heritage.
He will now await further clarification on his next destination after the failed move to Hadjuk Split.
