The Committee of Families of Political Prisoners has called on the Palestinian Authority to immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Shaima Abu Ghali, a former Palestinian prisoner who is currently being held in Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the committee condemned Abu Ghali’s arrest, describing it as politically motivated. It also called on the authorities to ensure her physical and psychological well-being during her detention and to hold those responsible accountable for any harm she may suffer.
The committee described the arrest as an infringement on her freedom and said it undermined the sacrifices made by Palestinian prisoners and the families of those killed in the conflict.
According to the statement, Abu Ghali had been released from Israeli prison approximately three months before her latest detention.

The committee also criticised the Jenin Magistrate’s Court for extending her detention by 15 days, arguing that she should have been released.
It further noted that Abu Ghali is the daughter of a Palestinian who was killed in the conflict and said her continued detention carries additional symbolic significance for her family.
The committee argued that the detention of a recently released prisoner raises broader concerns for former detainees and called for her immediate release.
The Palestinian Authority had not publicly commented on the committee’s statement or the reasons for Abu Ghali’s detention at the time of reporting.
