WNBA star Sophie Cunningham will be Vice President of the United States by 2050, former ESPN writer Chuck Klosterman has boldly claimed.
Cunningham is becoming a household name in the American sports world after starting her own podcast and working as an active player analyst for USA Network.
The 6ft 1in guard also made a surprise cameo at a UFC fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night when she appeared as a ring girl, just weeks after she was turned into an online meme after pointing animatedly at a rival player on the court.
And amid her ever-increasing fame, Cunningham has been controversially tipped to become Vice President one day by Klosterman.
‘Sophie Cunningham… I’m going to say [by] 2050, is going to be Vice President of the United States,’ the American author said on the latest episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast.
‘I don’t know what party she’ll be in, I don’t know anything about her political views. But she will be the vice presidential candidate, at least the candidate.’

Klosterman added: ‘I don’t know what it is. It’s something about the fact that she wears those sleeves on the court, something about the way she triggers in-bound plays at the end of games, makes me think she will be someone’s ideal vice president.
‘You know, she has a damn likable personality.’
After being pictured with Donald Trump ally Dana White at the weekend, and previously being nicknamed ‘MAGA Barbie’ by fans, Cunningham was finally forced to address speculation over her political stance this week.
‘I’m clearly white and from Missouri, and so I think there was a lot of assumption there,’ she said. ‘All I have to say is I really am right in the middle, and I think a lot of America is like that.
‘In our culture today you have to choose and you have to be an extremist, and that’s just not me. So, I agree with things on both sides; I disagree with things on both sides.’
Cunningham broke the internet last month when she was seen pointing dramatically at Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner as tempers flared during their game in Indianapolis, with fans left highly amused by her antics on the court.
The meme gained so much traction, in fact, that the White House even jumped on the bandwagon.

The official White House X account shared a video which shows Cunningham explaining her technical foul for pointing at Bonner and reenacting her gesture, before it cuts to Trump pointing into a camera and giving a thumbs-up.
When asked for her thoughts on the president’s administration getting involved, the WNBA star said she ‘didn’t really think twice’ about it.
‘I think everyone around the world is posting it,’ Cunningham told reporters about her viral clip.
‘Every company has done it. They’re just the one to also get on board, and so I didn’t really think twice about it. I think they’re just another group who is posting about it.’
